An Open Letter to my Husband

On this day twenty four years ago, the most important man in my life was born. He would grow up to be my best friend, husband, father, and leader of our family. God has shaped him into an amazing, hard working, level headed, passionate, and wonderful man. I feel incredibly lucky to spend the rest of my life with him, he has certainly changed my life for the better. Taylor, this is for you.

Your fervent pursuit of the Lord is something I dream of having, thank you for being a Godly leader to our son and I. You are strong. You are the strongest man I know, not because you are perfect, but because you are imperfect and admit your weaknesses. That takes more strength and maturity than trying to prove yourself strong on your own. I admire that in you. There are a LOT of things I admire about you! You never cease to make me laugh, even when I’m mad. In fact, it seems like that’s your favorite time to make me laugh… and you know exactly how to do it! I appreciate your dorky, witty, sometimes annoying sense of humor.

I’m sure you’ve learned a lot in the past twenty four years, and it shows. One thing I admire about you is how smart you are. Your brain is working one hundred and fifty percent of the time and I can’t keep up with it! It amazes me all the knowledge you can retain and the intelligent conversations you can have. I sometimes feel inadequate in comparison. I often have to ask you questions just so I can keep up, and you are always gracious and understanding with me. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your guidance and gentleness.

I take much joy and pride in being able to watch you mature through the stages of life we’ve endured together. From being teenagers to newly married, and now into parenthood, I have grown to love you more and more. As we grow older and mature together, I want you to know that my love for you will do the same. You are an incredible person, and anyone would be lucky to call you a friend. I am the luckiest person to call you my husband. You are my best friend, the one I look up to and the one I admire. You are my confidant and partner for life. I hope you have the happiest of birthdays because you deserve it! I love you.

  1. Nice blog Rachel, I agree Taylor has great personality and he is a real achiever. You both are moving pretty fast toward your goals. Great progress! All 3 of you are in our daily prayers. We are proud to have the honor of being your grandparents. Also I really like the message and the plaque above your fireplace. By the way, could I get your new address? I can’t believe how fast Calvin is growing! Blessings to you and your family.
